| The PGDISEM course addresses a crucial contemporary requirement - the design, development, management and maintenance of safe and environmentally sound industrial systems and work places. The students are taught the sustainable practices of businesses from the points of view of operations management and process technologies, finance, economics and human resource management. | The program provides technical inputs in industrial safety and environment, synchronized with knowledge of industrial concepts and tools. Besides the extensive coverage on industrial safety and environmental management, students are imparted integrated professional skills needed to solve real world challenges preparing them for executive positions in Corporations, Government agencies, Consulting firms and NGOs. The PGDISEM program, started in 2000, is approved by AICTE.
OBJECTIVES To train the students in a broad base of general management methods augmented with state-of-art know-how, to improve the quality of industrial safety and environmental practices. To equip the students with the necessary expertise to manage industrial safety and environmental problems, thereby effectively paving the way for cleaner and safer industrial practices. To provide foundations for further studies and research in Industrial safety and Environmental management.

COURSE STRUCTURE |  |
INDUSTRY & MARKET INTERFACE
PGDISEM students undergo rigorous industry-based training through two months of summer internship after the first year and four months of internship towards the end of the course. During these projects in the industries, the students acquire hands on management experience in dealing with real life problems in the areas of safety, environment and health. Apart from these formal projects, the students have regular industrial sites visits during their coursework and also undertake weekend projects to hone their skills in specific areas.
LABORATORIES & RESEARCH FACILITIES
The institute has sophisticated laboratories, viz. Environmental Engineering, Industrial Environment, Occasional Health and Safety and Physical Ergonomics. The laboratories have equipment such as Gas Chromatograph, High Volume Sampler, TOC Analyzer, BOD and COD Apparatus and Noise Measurement instruments and many other instruments for chemical and microbiological analysis of water and waste water. NITIE is proud of its Centre of Excellence in Ergonomics and Human Factor Engineering (CEEFHE) with a direct outcome of the Vision 2020 of the Government of India.

All the subject courses strongly rely on utilizing the excellent computer facilities that NITIE has, and give hands on experience on the software packages like ERDAS, SAFETI, PHAST, MATLAB, STATISTICA, QUAL2E, ISCST etc. |
